I've got an idea:  The Online Church of Christian Nerdom.

I'm starting a Q&A series on the subject of The Bible and Jesus from a Non-Denominational Back-to-Basics perspective.  Here's a topic that is a personal pet peeve of mine and I will go into more detail on non-biblical aspects of this at a later date.

Are pagan gods demons?
NO!  While 1 Corinthians 10:20-21 seems to say this twice, 8:4 explicitly and bluntly states, and I quote "An idol is nothing".  The verse many people point to, I believe, uses "demons" as a symbolic metaphor for "not of God".
There is a Jewish folktale of Abraham when he was a child living in Ur.  His father made idols for a living.  One day, Abraham's father left him in charge of the shop while he left to do stuff.  When he returned, all but the largest were smashed.  He asked what happened, Abraham said that the big one destroyed the smaller ones.  His father said that wasn't possible because they were just stone and wood.  Abraham asked him why he would worship them.
This is The Bible, not H. P. Lovecraft.

You have no idea how many times I've heard people whipping 10:20 out.
If you have any other questions or topics you'd like for me to discuss, leave a comment.  If I have an answer, I'll post it.  If I don't, we'll find one together.

I'll leave you all with a good bit of advice:
Really read the Sermon on the Mount.
